It has been very exciting to have been invited to run a 12 week Women’s Self Defence Class, funded by Clarion Futures, the charitable arm of Clarion Housing Association. We are in our fourth week now, and the ladies are thoroughly enjoying themselves.
The class is about 15 strong and the ladies are of all different shapes and sizes and fitness levels. We are not following the usual Ju Jitsu syllabus, but cherry picking certain basic and practical self-defence techniques, which are easy to master in a short space of time. Several of our experienced students have been volunteering to support the class, and even after such a short time it is clear to see that the women’s skills and confidence has grown tremendously. What is also important is that they are having fun, and the class includes laughter, clapping and hugs.
The Jujitsu classes are held at St Mary Cray Primary School and are free to end users.
